OUR MISSION InsightLA is dedicated to bringing the deep joy and peace of mindfulness and compassion to people everywhere. Our commitment is to provide a warm, supportive learning environment, fostering mindfulness and compassion in all our relationships – with ourselves, with others and with our world. HISTORY InsightLA was founded in 2002 by Trudy Goodman, Ph.D., with a small circle of dedicated people practicing in living rooms and community centers around the city and has grown into an organization that teaches thousands of people every year in locations from Santa Monica to Los Feliz to Long Beach and beyond. As a non-profit organization, InsightLA is supported by the generosity of individuals who understand the importance of offering mindfulness practices for all people. Our program revenues supplement our functioning expenses and through these two forms of income we are able to offer financial assistance to those who need it most and to enable those with no or little income to still practice and attend events. CLASSES InsightLA offers classes designed to introduce people to mindfulness meditation with Basics series as well as deepen their understanding with intermediate and advanced offerings. We teach both secular mindfulness classes, such as MBSR and Buddhist classes, such as our Buddha’s Path series. Our instructors are extensively trained and have been practicing for many years. Classes are designed to meet you where you are and our teachers are passionate that each student’s experience be unique and helpful to them as individuals. WORKSHOPS AND RETREATS In addition to our classes, InsightLA offers workshops, daylong and residential retreats, which give students the opportunity to practice mindfulness and meditation in a controlled setting under the watchful eye of a seasoned teacher. Workshops are provided for mental health and caregiving professionals as well as lay practitioners who want to learn more about using the tools of mindfulness in specific situations. Our residential and daylong retreats invite you to step away from the day to day business and deepen your practice through stillness, contemplation, and community. These events are great chances to refresh and rejuvenate your mind and spirit! INSIGHTLA’S SPEAKER SERIES We are proud to offer programs with some of the brightest voices in mindfulness and Buddhism today. Speakers like Jack Kornfield, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein, Robert Thurman, Tara Brach, George Mumford, Dan Siegel, and Ram Dass have all participated in our InsightLA Speaker Series. These are one-of-a-kind opportunities to learn with the masters.
